Only 8 g aluminum

Mindfulness with materials

We at ikiko® candle stove attach great importance to the responsible use of materials and sustainability. We want to contribute to the reduction of waste and environmental damage. Therefore, we use natural materials wherever possible.

The small tin cup of the tea lights weighs only 8 g, but in this case it makes the quantity. Multiplied by the 8 billion tea lights per year, this corresponds to 64000 tons of aluminum. This is equivalent to the weight of about 46000 mid-size cars (1.4 t). So we throw 46000 cars on the garbage every year - in Germany alone.

In addition, there is environmental damage from the mining process and energy-intensive production. Aluminum is too valuable to simply throw away.

At ikiko® Candle stove / tea light stove are used natural materials. But what are natural materials? In the end, does not everything come from nature? Ever since mankind has existed, materials have been transformed. But in modern times, materials are developed and used whose transformation is not completed, or unstable. If we change a material into another state, it always involves a lot of energy.

Careful handling of materials is very important to us. After all, every material also contains a lot of energy.

For example, the inti candles in glass can be refilled quite conveniently. The high-quality fireproof glass can withstand a lot, but can still break, in which case it is disposed of in the bottle bank. Of all natural materials, glass takes by far the longest to decompose. Depending on environmental conditions, a glass bottle can last between 400 and one million years, according to the Augsburger Allgemeine. But since glass does not float on water, it is not considered food. Land animals recognize the mineral origin and do not mistake the glass fragments for food.

The ikiko® candle stove / tea light stove is about 95% made of ceramic, a natural material that has a long tradition in craftsmanship. Ceramic is a durable material and can be recycled if necessary. We also use a small amount of plastic, which is necessary for the mobility of the candle stove. We have searched extensively for alternatives, but have not been able to find a plastic-free replacement for the rollers. However, we have made sure that the plastic is of the highest quality to ensure the longevity and durability of the candle stove.

At ikiko® candle stove / tea light stove we are aware that every material consumption is connected with energy. Therefore, we focus on a mindful and responsible use of materials. We choose carefully and strive to use resources as efficiently as possible.

Our goal is to offer high-quality products that are durable and a sustainable alternative to disposable products. We are committed to the conscious use of materials and strive to minimize the environmental impact of our products.
